Settsukyo Hananosato Onsen (Sansuikan)
Escape from urban bustles and relax, bathing in O-iwami-buro, a hot spring bath featuring an 8 m uniquely shaped natural rock. The Sansuikan Inn is located upstream in the Settsu Gorge, Takatsuki City. Visitors can fully enjoy the seasonal beauty: mountain cherry blossoms in spring, ayu (sweet fish) and fireflies in summer, and colorful foliage in autumn. Established in 1967, Sansuikan was originally a small inn featuring delicious dishes. In 1982, hot spring sources were discovered after a two-year excavation effort promoted by the proprietress in cooperation with geologists. The inn has two types of hot springs: one is an indoor rock bath of simple alkaline water containing radon, and another is an open-air bath of alkaline pure sodium bicarbonate water, overlooking the Akutagawa River valley. In particular, the second hot spring is thought highly effective for skin and health enhancement because its water is 2.5 times denser than standard hot spring water. The thickness of the water is evident from its smooth texture. The caf_ serves coffee using potable spa water (authorized by a public health center).
