Settsukyo Hananosato Hot Springs (Sansuikan)

A relaxing soak in the Oiwa-mi Bath, an 8-meter-tall natural rock formation located upstream of Takatsuki Settsu Gorge, will make you forget the hustle and bustle of the city. Experience the four seasons, from the mountain cherry blossoms in spring to the sweetfish and fireflies in summer and the autumn foliage. Founded in 1967, this small inn (ryokan) was eventually dug for two years by the proprietress, with the help of geologists, before finally discovering the hot spring. There are two types of hot spring water: Spring No. 1, an alkaline simple spring rich in radon, is used in the indoor rock bath, while Spring No. 2, an alkaline pure sodium bicarbonate spring, is used in the open-air bath overlooking the Akutagawa Valley. Spring No. 2, in particular, is 2.5 times more concentrated than standard hot springs, making it highly effective for skin beautification and therapeutic purposes. The smooth texture of the water makes its richness apparent. The hot spring water is drinkable (permitted by the health center), and coffee made with the hot spring water is available at the cafe.
