Taishi Onsen
The natural hot spring spa nestled at the foot of Mt. Nijo offers calm and relaxation to the weary traveler.
Taishi Onsen is a natural hot spring spa located in Taishi Town, which has historical ties to Shotoku Taishi (Prince Shotoku). The town has many historic sites and monuments related to the regent, such as Eifukuji Temple, where Shotoku sited his own tomb, Taishi Gobyo, the resting place of Shotoku's mother, and the burial mound of Shotoku's father, the emperor Yomei. The spa is popular among visitors to the area, who drop by to unwind after a day of sightseeing or hiking. Facilities include open-air cypress baths overlooking verdant mountains, and a large communal rock bath. The simple thermal spring is believed to be beneficial for rheumatism, neuralgia and for relieving fatigue. There are also quiet guestrooms built in the sukiya style, available for overnight stays and kaiseki meals comprising seasonal delicacies.
