Takihata Dam

The affectionate "Takihata Dam Mandarin Ducks" is one of the Eight Views of Shinkawachinagano. Enjoy a stroll around the lush green dam lake.
Completed in March 1982, Takihata Dam is a multipurpose dam that supports flood control measures for the Ishikawa River, a Class A river in the Yamato River system, including farmland in the upper reaches, irrigation water, and water supply for residents of Habikino, Fujiidera, Kawachinagano, and Tondabayashi. The lush surrounding area has been developed into a nature resort village with a campground, walking trails, fishing pond, and restaurant. The artificial lake created by the dam attracts many migratory birds every year. Mandarin ducks, in particular, stay here from late October until early March of the following year, creating a graceful sight. The "Takihata Dam Mandarin Ducks" are even counted as one of the New Eight Views of Kawachinagano. Downstream from the dam site, on a cliff just north of the dam, stands a rock-carved Buddha statue. It is said to have been dug by the late Natsume Shokichi, a Kawachinagano resident, single-handedly during the late Taisho period. The statue features Jizo Bodhisattva and Kannon Bodhisattva statues next to each other.
