Takihata Furusato Bunkazai no Mori Culture Center

The history of the Takihata region still remains here along the banks of the dam.

Basic information

In 1981, a dam was built in the Takihata region, flooding the area with water. Many of cultural assets of this region, from folk arts and crafts to home architecture, are preserved and displayed here at the Kawachinagano City Takihata Folk Museum. The architectural style of the region’s homes was characterized by a layout called tsuma-iri yokowari-gata (laterally-sectioned front gable construction), the only example of this style found in all of Osaka Prefecture. On the site of the museum is an exhibition that shows the set-up of the inside of one of these homes, including the traditional bath and irori-style sunken hearth. There is also a standalone exhibition room dedicated to tessei-yugama, a style of iron kettle registered as a Tangible Cultural Property with the City of Kawachinagano. Preserved next to that structure are a number of fujiki-kuyo-bi (fasting worship stones) erected in the 130 years between the early 1650s and late 1790s.
