Tokai Nature Trail

Experience nature on a 1,697km long walk. Japan's first long-distance nature trail connects Tokyo, Tokyo, two metropolitan areas, and eight prefectures.

Opened in 1974, this is Japan's first long-distance nature trail, linking Tokyo's Meiji-no-Mori Takao Quasi-National Park with Osaka's Meiji-no-Mori Minoh Quasi-National Park, spanning one metropolis, two metropolitan areas, and eight prefectures. The 1,697km route was developed to allow hiking in all seasons while protecting the natural environment. The route winds through the beautiful Hokusetsu mountain range, dotted with scenic spots and historical sites. From families to hardy walkers, everyone can enjoy nature and history while hiking at their own pace. Beginning with the Tokaido Nature Trail, eight other nature trails have since been constructed in Kyushu, Chugoku, Shikoku, the Greater Tokyo Area, Tohoku, Chubu-Hokuriku, and Kinki, with a total length of approximately 21,000km. It is enjoyed by over 40 million people annually.
