Sanno Museum of Art: Renoir's 185th Anniversary Exhibition

Approximately 50 pieces from the Renoir collection will be on display!

Basic information

"Renoir is probably the only great painter who never painted a sad picture."
These are the words written by French novelist Octave Mirbeau in a book of Pierre-Auguste Renoir's (1841-1919) art, published in 1913.
Renoir himself said in his later years that in a life full of unpleasant things, paintings should be "something to love" and "something enjoyable and beautiful."

Although Renoir started out as an avant-garde group of painters known as the Impressionists, he also learned from the traditions of painting and continued to explore endlessly.
This exhibition, commemorating the 185th anniversary of his birth, will bring together approximately 50 works from the Sanno Museum of Art's collection, tracing a part of his artistic career.

Please enjoy Renoir's world, filled with light, color, and the joy of living.
