Shimada Fisheries – Oyster Harvesting Experience

At Shimada Fisheries, a local oyster farm, everyone can join their Oyster Harvesting Tour & Sightseeing Cruise off the Coast of Itsukushima Shrine, available from October to May. A local fisherman will guide you to the oyster harvesting site and explain the entire cultivation process. One of the cruise highlights are the views of UNESCO World Heritage Site Itsukushima Shrine from the sea! When selecting the meal-inclusive plan, a delicious bowl of oyster rice soup kaki zosui is served after the tour.

Anagomeshi Ueno

Founded in 1901 (Meiji 34), Anagomeshi Ueno is the originator of conger eel over rice anago-meshi, one of Miyajima’s most beloved local specialties. The dish was first sold as a station bento, designed to be just as delicious cold as it was hot—based on the popular conger eel rice bowl anago-donburi served in Miyajima at the time. Today, visitors can enjoy it both as takeaway bento or freshly made in the restaurant, each offering a distinct flavor experience.
