Footwear wholesale district

This footwear wholesale district is located in Nipponbashi east area of Naniwa Ward. Along the 400-meter-long street, there are about 100 stores selling sandals, zori, and other footwear, as well as accessories like bags and umbrellas (some stores are open to the general public). This neighborhood, brimming with downtown charm, is affectionately known as "Hakihaki Town" and is known nationwide alongside Hanakawado in Asakusa. In the early Taisho period, many geta craftsmen in the Kita-Nittocho area began selling Daishi geta on the 21st of each month, the Daishi market day. Sales were relatively good, so from that point on, they began to manufacture and sell them in small shops, and the area began to develop. In particular, after the footwear wholesalers on Midosuji were forced to move out due to road construction, the number of stores rapidly increased, and continues to this day.
