Itsukushima Shrine (Hirakata City)

To the right of the main shrine is the main shrine of Kasuga Shrine, a branch shrine of Itsukushima Shrine. The original main shrine of Itsukushima Shrine was moved here when the old Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara was taken over as the main shrine of Itsukushima Shrine towards the end of the Edo period.
To the right of the main hall is the main hall of Kasuga Shrine, a branch shrine of Itsukushima Shrine. This was the original main hall of Itsukushima Shrine, which was moved here around the end of the Edo period when the old Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara was taken over as the main hall of Itsukushima Shrine. The date of construction is unknown, but the architectural style suggests it dates from the mid to late Muromachi period. The one-bay, ryu-zukuri style building with a cypress bark roof gives it a regional character that is slightly different from southern Osaka Prefecture, due in part to its proximity to Kyoto Prefecture. The main hall of Kasuga Shrine, a branch shrine of Itsukushima Shrine, was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1978 (Showa 53).
