Gofusou

This historic building in Kishiwada has a beautiful garden that is a must-see.
On the site of the former new teahouse of the Okabe clan, lords of Kishiwada Castle, Terada Rikichi built this mansion over a period of 10 years starting in 1929 after the Meiji Restoration, and renamed Gofuso in 1950. This imposing building features a magnificent main house and three tea rooms, set amidst a tasteful strolling garden. The tea rooms are said to have been designed by Master Kizu, and the Yamatei in particular was built on a foundation of beautifully shaped natural stone. The main house, which embodies the pinnacle of Japanese architecture, overlooks a magnificent garden, and the clever arrangement of the tranquil pond, gracefully shaped Yamatei, and snow-viewing lanterns mysteriously soothes the souls of those who see them.
