Nagahoribashi

This was the first bridge built over the Nagahori River during the Edo period, and now a monument stands there.
Nagahoribashi was the first bridge built over the Nagahori River (approximately 2,500m long and 30-40m wide), which was excavated in 1625 to connect the Higashi-Yokobori River and the Kizu River. Along with Shinsaibashi and Shinanobashi, it played an important role in Osaka, and both were official bridges managed by the Edo Shogunate. With the start of the Meiji period, rivers began to be filled in, and Osaka's bridges, which were once so numerous that they were described as "Naniwa's 808 bridges," gradually disappeared. Nagahoribashi was one of them. Today, a monument stands there, and its name remains as the name of a subway station.
