Sugao Shrine

It is one of the shrines listed in the Engishiki. Tenjin (the deified Sugawara no Michizane) was enshrined and enshrined here, and it became famous as Sugo Tenmangu Shrine.

Tenjin (the deified Sugawara no Michizane) was enshrined and enshrined at the shrine, which became famous under the name "Sugao Tenmangu Shrine." Within the shrine grounds is a stream called "Sugasawa," which is said to be the birthplace of Sugawara no Michizane. The main hall, with its cypress bark roof, was built in the early Edo period. The famous "Two volumes of the Sugawara Tenjin Engi Emaki (painted by Kano Eina)" and "Three volumes of the Kitano Tenjin Engi Emaki" are among the works donated. Other works include "Five Portraits of Tenjin," "Twelve Scrolls of Sugawara no Michizane's Life," "One Volume of the Golden Lotus Sutra," and "An Art Book of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets Donated by Kano Eina."
