DAY3 START!

A Stroll Around the Ono Castle Town

A “Little Kyoto of the Hokuriku region” with a beautiful, grid-patterned streetscape, the castle town of “Echizen Ono” is a stone-paved town dotted with a number of historic sites, such as Oshozu spring, which is one of 100 remarkable water sources selected by the Ministry of Environment, and old samurai residences of the Uchiyama and Tamura families. Echizen Ono Castle is a castle built atop the flat summit of Mt. Kameyama (altitude: 249 meters) located in the central part of Ono City. Its stone wall is a valuable historic ruin, built by laying large stones horizontally, pushing them inward, instead of placing them vertically, which is called the “Nozura-zumi” method. The castle town lies at the bottom of the mountain. As this castle town gets covered by a sea of clouds in winter and Mt. Kameyama is the only thing that rises above it, looking like it’s floating, the castle is also called the “castle in the sky.”
