Wakasa Pearl Mamiya
(accessory making workshop)

Pearls in this area grew in the cold ocean through the changing four seasons, unlike those found in the southern seas. Such an environment creates fine pearl layers and beautiful colors. At the accessory making workshop, you can choose pearls and make necklaces, earrings, pins, and tiepins.

Jakushu Itteki Bunko

Jakushu Itteki Bunko was established in 1985 as a base for Jakushu Ningyo-za (puppet theater) led by an author Tsutomu Mizukami, who was a local of Oi Town, as well as a facility to exhibit materials of various themes, including religions, art, and literature. It’s a comprehensive literature museum Tsutomu Mizukami established with a strong desire to have children encounter books and find their purpose in life and dreams.

hibi (complex facility that enriches your life)

A 230-year old traditional Japanese house renovated into a complex facility. At the restaurant, the chef of hibi offers original dishes made with seasonal, local ingredients invented by Mr. Yoshikawa, the chef of L‘aisance, a French restaurant in Fukui City.

Meikyodo Cave

It was named “Meikyo-do (polished mirror cave) because the horizon in the distance viewed through the hole is breathtaking and looks as if it’s another scenery in a mirror. At night, fishing boats on the horizon light a fire, making the scenery even more magical.

Guesthouse Kakutani Hitohira
(lodging/ paper marbling and calligraphy experiences)

A guesthouse that only accommodates up to a pair of guests per night where you can feel the ocean and relax by a fire. As the host is an active calligrapher, you can enjoy creating a harmony of a traditional Japanese paper dyeing technique “sumi-nagashi” (paper marbling) and Japanese calligraphy in an art workshop.
