Mt. Aoba Nakayamadera Temple
A temple with a long and distinguished history overlooking the Wakasa Bay, located halfway up Mt. Aoba. There are Important Cultural Properties: the Main Hall with irimoya roofs (mix of hip and gable roofs) covered with the bark of Japanese cypress, a seated statue of Bato Kannon, the deity with a crown of horse head, and standing statues of Kongo Rikishi, the guardians of Buddhism, created by Tankei. What’s more, you can admire a stunning view from the gate.

Aobayama Herbal Village

A facility located at the foot of Mt. Aoba (Mt. Fuji of Wakasa) built with a concept of “a place where the nature and people connect.” There is a visitor center that provides information on the surroundings of Mt. Aoba, a cafe where you can savor healthy food made with wild plants and herbs, Aobayama Terrace, and more. You can also enjoy medicinal tea making by using an old traditional tool, “yagen,” which makes you feel as if you are back in the day.

Terraced Rice Fields of Hibiki
There are about 200 terraced rice paddies along the narrow slope facing the calm Uchiura Bay. The nostalgic landscape reminiscent of old Japan, consisted of a fishing village, the sea, and rice paddies, is chosen as one of “100 Best Rice Paddies in Japan.” You can enjoy its seasonal scenery together with the Uchiura fishing port that expands along the coast.

As strawberries grown in the mountains ripen very slowly, the sweetness and flavors are condensed. What’s more, you can relish them without washing because they are grown on a raised bed as high as your waist and have no contact with the soil.
