Kakunodate Stroll
Kakunodate, known as the “Little Kyoto of Michinoku,” retains its Edo-period town layout, with samurai residences and storehouses of merchant homes lining the streets. Visit retro buildings in areas such as Uchimachi, where samurai once lived, and Sotomachi, where townspeople lived, and you will feel immersed in a romantic, nostalgic atmosphere. In the samurai residence district, riding a rickshaw while learning about the area’s history is also recommended.

Kakunodate Sanso Wabizakura
A 200-year-old thatched-roof farmhouse inn nestled in the satoyama countryside beyond wide-open rice fields. With only 10 rooms on a vast 130,000 square meter property, you can fully enjoy the quiet and peaceful scenery. Every room features a free-flowing semi-open-air bath. The alkaline simple hot spring water with a pH of 9.6 is also known for its skin-softening benefits.
