Moriguchi History Museum

The Moriguchi History Museum also holds projects that relate to its traditional cultures that have been passed on through history. Please come and see the traditional culture of Japan such as its dignified architectural beauty, along with Japanese houses and gardens.

Due to its in-law relationship with the Owari Tokugawa family, the Nakanishi family later turned out to be one of the many famous families that also served as the magistrates of the Owari Domain’s Tenma Goyashiki. It is said that the settlement was during the mid-16th century, with its wooden tag indicating that the main building was built in 1555, rebuilt in 1616, and then rebuilt as the current building in 1776, whereupon the Nagaya Gate (main gate) was last re-rebuilt in 1793. While the Nagaya Gate (main gate) was facing east, the main building which has a front entrance with steps was built facing south. The separate library and the rooms are connected to the main building. In 2001, based on the feng shui energy map, the waiting room, medium gate, and Kamaya were restored. Once it was surrounded by a moat, and the park located on the north side was part of the premise, which is enveloped by the mortar walls. While the layout of the main room is quite similar to those of the mayor, the main gate and entrance with steps express the dignity of a samurai residence. As the only existing samurai residence in Osaka, it remains as a priceless relic of this region. Designated as “Building No. 1” of the designated cultural tangible property of Moriguchi City in February 18, 1998. The Moriguchi History Museum was opened in order to preserve this precious cultural property and to pass down to the next generation.
