Mount Iwawaki
Come autumn, the peak of this mountain is transformed into a stunningly-beautiful ocean of flowering pampas grass.
No trees grow atop Mount Iwawaki—instead, in the fall the peak is awash with waves of flowering pampas grass that turn the mountain landscape into a thing of beauty. The mountain has a number of different hiking trails: Take the tranquil, easy-going Iwawaki Trail up to the observation deck at the top of the mountain and you’ll catch sight of beautiful Japanese cypress and mixed forests in autumn foliage. The mountainside Shikisai-kan rest area acts as a half-way point along the trail and also provides visitors with lots of information about the area.
