Yokokan Garden

A "water garden" made in the early to mid-Edo Period by drawing the abundant water from five layers of moats that once surrounded the Fukui Castle. This innovative space defies the conventions of traditional Japanese gardens, featuring a large pond without an island and a residence seemingly floating on the water. For 18 consecutive years ranked among the top 10 by The Journal of Japanese Gardening, a U.S. magazine specializing in Japanese gardens.

ESHIKOTO

A new complex in Eiheiji Town, Fukui Prefecture—renowned for its sake production—where visitors can experience Hokuriku culture centered around Fukui, with Japanese sake as the main theme. Home to the flagship store of the sake brewery Shuzo/Kokuryu, the Ishidaya ESHIKOTO also features restaurants and bakeries that showcase Fukui culinary heritage. Enjoy refined moments as you listen to the gentle flow of the Kuzuryu River just in front.

The flagship shop of Kokuryu Sake Brewery, beloved by locals since its founding in 1804 (Bunka 1). Many visitors also come in search of ESHIKOTO-exclusive products available only at this popular shop. Do not miss the popular “Tasting of the Day” where three types for 2,500 yen are available for sampling and to discover your personal favorite.
