Midosuji Sculpture Street

Sculptures by famous artists from Japan and abroad are displayed along Midosuji, Osaka's main street, delighting passersby as a casual way to appreciate art.

Midosuji, Osaka's main street, stretches approximately 4km from Umeda to Namba. It opened in 1937 with a vision of Osaka's development 100 years into the future. From the start, all electric cables were underground, approximately 800 ginkgo trees were planted, and the skyline of surrounding buildings was limited to 30m, creating a beautiful landscape that has garnered attention. Today, the skyline has been relaxed to 50m, and commercial facilities and office buildings line the street. In particular, the Minami area, with its bustling shopping districts of Shinsaibashisuji and Ebisubashisuji running parallel to each other from north to south just to the east, and the vibrant business districts of Minami-Minamisemba and Americamura crisscrossing the east and west in a grid-like fashion, creates a vibrant atmosphere. In recent years, 29 sculptures by renowned artists from Japan and abroad, including Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin (famous for "The Thinker"), and Kotaro Takamura, have been installed along Midosuji, delighting passersby.
